Republic of Kiribati is the most Eastern situated country in the world. Located in the Central Pacific Ocean, it comprises of a group of atolls (depending on the source: 32 or 30) and one raised coral island.
The equator divides its area, and it borders the International Date Line. Even the land surface is rather small the distance from West to East is estimated as 4000km. |
|
Our team (Mantra Train, Mosaic Events and Zeta Lightburn) will travel from Ireland in October 2010 to capture the island in the form of the documentary film. |

The biggest island in Republic of Kiribati and the greatest land area of any coral atoll in the world is Christmas Island known also as Kiritimati (part of Line Islands). It comprises over 48% of the total land surface of Kiribati .
Few facts about Kiritimati:
Kiritimati Island is a sanctuary and breeding ground in the Pacific for seabirds.
With very little land in any direction, Kiritimati supports 18 different species of birds, including the endemic Christmas Island Warbler. The island is also home, and a population stronghold, to the endangered Phoenix Petrel and the White Throated Storm Petrel.
Christmas Island is also famous for it’s game fishing that includes going after the big Trevally or Bone-fish.
Because of the location (near to the equator) Republic of Kiribati is a key space location.
China has its own domestic satellites tracking ground station in the South Tarawa Island.
In 1980 Japan started the HOPE-X experimental spaceplane project (officially now currently cancelled), which in 1999 was considered to be based on Christmas Island. Unfortunately in 2003 Japan cancelled the programme.
Also in International waters just south of Kiritimati the giant Sea Launch company operating out of California launches commercial satellites using a converted deep-sea oil platform.

Our main desire is to bring people closer – to what we believe – is the most remote place on the globe. By making the film, we want to question known facts, investigate and document our honest and critical research in which we’ll approach several key issues of this forgotten land and its people.
Uncertainty forced upon iKiribatis by the fact that their migration is unavoidable, triggers amazing in our opinion immunity and strength, which allows them to live there and keep on cherishing beloved homeland.
This nation because of where it’s located keeps the treasure of unique traditions, believes and stories which we want to preserve and learn from.
We wish to interview people from different backgrounds, representing various professions, which include Educators, Activists, Artists and any interesting personas that can contribute to this documentary |
